Matched Aspheric Pairs

Thorlabs matched aspheric pairs provide near aberration-free one-to-one imaging. Each of our matched aspheric pairs consists of two identical aspheric lenses pre-aligned and mounted in a metal housing with a M11 x 0.5 external thread for ease of mounting. Our matched pairs are available with numerical apertures of 0.40 or 0.25 and with anti-reflection coating for 600-1050 nm or 1050-1700 nm.

To mount our matched aspheric pairs an RMS11P adapter can be used to adapt the matched pair to standard RMS threading. To mount the lens pair into our Lens Tubes, an SM1A3 adapter is also recommended to mount the RMS threaded assembly into SM1 tubes. Additionally, to mount the matched pair on to our flexure stages an RMS11P RMS adapter can be used in conjunction with an HCS013 flexure stage mount. Using the RMS thread adapter the lens pair can also be mounted to our KM100R Kinematic Mount.

Are there any hopes of getting an aspheric lens pair with A AR coating (i.e. visible antireflection)?
YLohia  (posted 2018-08-16 08:35:39.0)
Yes, it is possible for us to offer these with the A coating by requesting a custom quote from techsupport@thorlabs.com. I will reach out to you directly with more information.

Laser to High NA Fiber Coupling Pair

Our High NA fiber coupling lens pairs provide an easy and effective solution for the routine task of coupling a laser diode to a multimode fiber. To provide the ability to easily launch the light from the divergent output of a diode to a high NA fiber the mounted lens pair consists of two lenses, one with a numerical aperture of 0.55, for the laser side, and the other with a numerical aperture of 0.25, for the fiber side. The lens pairs are available with anti-reflection coating for 600-1050 nm or for 1050-1700 nm.

The lens pair is pre-aligned and mounted in a metal housing with an external M9 x 0.5 thread on the side designed to face the laser diode. To mount the lens pair Thorlabs designed the S1TM09 adapter to adapt the housing to SM1 threading. This adapter allows to further mount the lens pair into our Lens Tubes. Additionally, to mount the matched pair on to our flexure stages a RMS thread adapter RMS09 can be used in conjunction with an HCS013 mount. Using the RMS thread adapter the lens pair can also be mounted to our KM100R Kinematic Mount.

Hello, I would like to use this "Laser to High NA Fiber Coupling Pair" to couple 720nm and 1310nm lasers from diode facet into fibre, SM fibre would be the best. But when I check the C230220P-B product information, it says the design wavelength is 780nm. What dose the design wavelength mean, could I use this product to couple 720nm or 700nm laser from diode into a fibre. Looking forward to your reply.

Hello, thank you for contacting Thorlabs. The design wavelength of 780nm means that at 780nm you would get the optimum performance from the lens. Since the lens is made from a single material, the design is optimized for a specific wavelength. The performance at any other wavelength will be different from what is called out as the performance at the design wavelength. For fiber coupling applications, the lenses offer good performance well beyond their specific design wavelength. The lenses are coated to minimize the back reflections in the coating range specified. For specific performance it is always best to use the Zemax data to model in the specific application. That being said, this lens is specified for use in the 650 - 1050nm wavelength range, which is fine for 720nm but less than ideal for 1310nm. The primary issue here would be loss due to the AR coating, which does not cover 1310nm. There will also be a noticeable focal length shift so the spot sizes of the two wavelengths will not be equal. For such applications, we typically recommend using mirrors due to their broadband operating range.

Fiber Coupling Pair

Our fiber coupling lens pairs provide an easy and effective solution for coupling a laser diode to fibers with a numerical aperture above 0.16. To provide the ability to easily launch the light from the divergent output of a diode to a multimode fiber the mounted lens pair consists of two lenses, one with a numerical aperture of 0.55, for the laser side, and the other with a numerical aperture of 0.16, for the fiber side. The combination of the high NA, short focal length and the lower NA, longer focal length reduces the NA of the emitter by the ratio of the focal lengths. The size of the emitter is simultaneously magnified by the inverse of this same ratio.

Additionally, to mount the matched pair on to our flexure stages a RMS thread adapter RMS09 can be used in conjunction with a HCS013 mount. Using the RMS thread adapter the lens pair can also be mounted to our KM100R Kinematic Mount.
