With the asynchronous optical sampling (ASOPS) technique, ultrafast data sampling is no longer limited by the natural restrictions of a mechanically moving optical delay unit. Menlo Systems' novel TERA-ASOPS high-speed THz time-domain spectrometer system uses this technique to temporally scan THz pulse traces at a revolutionary high rate. At the same time, it extends the detection window to nanoseconds, pushing the spectral resolution into the region of hundreds of MHz.

TERA-ASOPS uses two ultrafast lasers operating at a locked repetition rate with a tunable difference, providing the optical pulses for THz emission and detection. The lasers feature Menlo Systems’ patented figure 9® mode locking technology for high stability and reliability. The laser pulses are delivered via optical fiber to the THz antenna modules which are of the latest standard for high-power THz wave emission. High-transmission, low-loss, polymer optics ensure easy alignment and long-term stability of the THz path. The high-speed data acquisition platform, together with the ASOPS synchronization electronics and user-friendly software, allows scanning over more than 1 kHz and measurement windows up to 10 ns. If needed, the measurement window can be reduced to a few hundred picoseconds by simply changing the mode of operation.

For seamless integration into existing experiments, the software features remote control of the spectrometer and high-speed data transfer over network. On request, additional laser output ports at 1560 nm and 780 nm can be configured. The TERA-ASOPS provides a fully functional turnkey THz time-domain spectroscopy system that combines the ASOPS technique with the latest fiber coupled THz antenna modules for maximum flexibility.

Alternatively, systems based on the OSCAT (Optical Sampling by Cavity Tuning) technique are available. Similar to the ASOPS technique, OSCAT offers the capability of high-speed imaging measurements and great flexibility of the system configuration, without mechanical delay line. Please contact Menlo Systems if you are interested in the OSCAT technique.
