Minimum Incremental Movement of 0.05 µm if Used with the BSC201 Motor ControllerThe LNR50, combined with our high performance stepper motor based actuator DRV014, provides true nanopositioning capability. The stepper motor-based actuator utilizes a trapezoidal-shaped 1 mm/rev pitch leadscrew that provides a high load carrying capability. Using the BSC201 stepper motor driver with its micro-stepping capabilities provides a step size of around 0.05 µm. The exceptional performance of the LNR50S is a result of the rigid all steel construction of the stage combined with the sophisticated design of the DRV014 actuator. The modular design of the LNR50 family of stages allows optional elements to be added to the platform within minutes.
Bidirectional Repeatability: 0.3 µm Glass Scale Encoder Resolution 0.1 µmCombining the TravelMax all-steel stage with an integrated linear optical encoder provides the ideal solution for applications where stability, long travel, and high load capacity need to be coupled with absolute position accuracy. A dedicated software that takes full advantage of the high-resolution linear optical encoder is also available. This software, when combined with one of Thorlabs' apt™ series of closed-loop stepper motor controllers such as the BSC201, can provide an application solution that is fully operational out of the box. The LNR50SE features a sub-micron resolution linear scale that is directly attached to the moving platform of the stage. This linear optical encoder provides the necessary feedback to the drive electronics, thus ensuring true nanopositioning capabilities. Therefore, the mechanical positioning errors associated with backlash can be ignored since the encoder provides a direct readout of the absolute position. The glass scale encoder system has a resolution of 0.1 µm, leading to a positional accuracy that is better than 3 µm over the full 50 mm of travel. Furthermore, the bidirectional repeatability is ~0.3 µm.
![]() Click to Enlarge The LNR50P1 base plate provides additional mounting options and provides extra clearance between the stage and the work surface (e.g. when fitting motor drives). Tapped holes match up to the two counterbored clearance holes mentioned above and four slotted holes allow the LNR50P2 angle bracket mentioned below to be attached directly. The plate measures 100 mm x 195 mm x 12 mm (3.9" x 7.7" x 0.47"). ![]() Click to Enlarge The LNR50P2 angle bracket allows the LNR stage to be mounted vertically. When combined with the LNR50P1 described above, it can be used to build XZ, YZ and XYZ configurations. ![]() Click to Enlarge The LNR50P3 is designed to provide extra spacing to allow stages fitted with motor drives to be stacked in an XY orientation (assuming Z to be vertical). The plate is 24 mm (0.94") thick and comes complete with all the necessary mounting hardware. ![]() Click to Enlarge The photo above shows the LNR50P1 and LNR50P2 brackets, used to mount 3 LNR50 stages in an XYZ configuration. ![]() The photo above shows two LNR50 stages fitted with DRV414 DC servo motor actuators, and mounted in an XY configuration. The LNR50P3 plate fitted between the X and Y axis stages provides the clearance required for the motor actuators.
These DC Servo Motor Actuators provide an alternative to the Stepper Motor Actuators above. The ball screw drive delivers highly reliable, low friction, 24/7 operation. They have a 55 lb (25 kg) load capacity and are ideally suited for applications that require high-speed precision motion control. Unlike trapezoidal lead screws, ball screws have rolling surfaces that wear less than sliding interfaces and are preloaded to eliminate backlash. The design incorporates a 1024 lines (4096 effective) rotary encoder for accurate and repeatable positioning, especially when combined with the BDC100 Series DC Motor Controller. These actuators have been designed specifically for heavy loads, providing a load capacity of 55 lbs (25 kg). The PAS Series of Piezoelectric Actuators offer three travel ranges in a convenient mounting package: 20, 40, and 100 µm. The mounting barrel allows the actuator to be mounted in any standard Ø0.5" (Ø12.7 mm) mounting hole. The tip of the actuator is tapped to accept any of our PAA Series Actuator Tips. A PAA001 Flat End tip is included with each actuator. These actuators can be driven by any of our Piezo Controllers

These actuators provide positional feedback via a 7 pin LEMO connector that can be used in conjunction with our APT series of motion controllers. The tip of the actuator is tapped to accept any of our PAA Series Actuator Tips. A PAA001 Flat End tip is included with each actuator. These actuators can be driven by any of our Piezo Controllers.
